DU observing Mourning Day

The teachers, students and employees of the Dhaka University (DU) are paying tributes to the memories of students and guests who died in a roof collapse at Jagannath Hall.

A total of 39 people, including 26 students and 13 guests, were killed when the roof of a one-storey building at Jagannath Hall collapsed on this day in 1985.

After the incident, DU authorities every year observe October 15 as "Dhaka University Mourning Day".

The authorities have chalked out a series of programmes, including mourning procession, placing wreaths at the memorial on the Jagannath Hall premises, hoisting black flags at all buildings, hoisting the university flag at half mast and offering special prayers at halls, to mark the day.
